Our Mission

CHCA is a grass roots organization of citizens who represent the public interest in health care in Owensboro-Daviess County, Kentucky.

Following the conclusion of 52 community forums on health care access in January 2002, a group of forum participants concluded that our community needs an ongoing health care advocacy group to address critical health care concerns that were examined in the forums.  As a result, Citizens Health Care Advocates was established.

Seven years later, there are more than 120 members, and more than 500 citizens have attended monthly CHCA programs.  CHCA has presented programs on reductions in the school nurse and midwifery programs, panels on the proposed tobacco tax increase, substance abuse, and more.  CHCA expressed concern over tensions between the local hospital administration and medical staff, and urged a strong public role in the restructuring of Owensboro Medical Health System following the buyout of the Mercy system.

CHCA meetings are open to the public and broadcast on OCTV Channel 71.
