YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND . . .

General Meeting :

The Thursday, July 9 general meeting program of Citizens Health Care Advocates will feature a discussion on the current national health care debate, led by Mark D. Birdwhistell, Chief External Affairs Officer of the University of  Kentucky Medical Center.  The meeting, to begin at 5:30 p.m., will be held in the Bedford Walker Room on the lower level of the Green River District Health Department at 1501 Breckenridge Street in Owensboro.

Birdwhistell is the former Secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services where he led recent Medicaid modernization efforts.  With over thirty years experience in the private health insurance industry and in government, Birdwhistell is a nationally recognized expert in health care policy and health care reform.  In his current position with the University of Kentucky, Birdwhistell is a frequent visitor to Washington, D.C. and Capitol Hill, where he works and testifies on health care issues on behalf of UK and the Commonwealth.  Birdwhistell will also be sharing recent initiatives and growth at the UK Medical Center which impact the quality of health care for Kentuckians.

The U.S. Congress is currently engaged in heated debate over the status of health care in the United States and what it will take to maintain it and make it sustainable into the future.  President Obama has encouraged Congress to complete its health care reform package before it completes its current session.  Birdwhistell will be explaining the major issues being discussed, the proposed solutions, and how they might impact the provision of health care to Kentuckians.

An opportunity for questions and answers and pubic discussion will follow Birdwhistell’s presentation.  The program will be taped for rebroadcast on OCTV-71 at later dates.

The program will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 in the Bedford Walker Room of the Green River District Health Department, located at 1501 Breckenridge Street in Owensboro.   CHCA will then have its regular "speak out" session where citizens may voice concerns and opinions about local health care issues.  The program will be taped for later broadcast on OCTV-71.
